Hobbies

Yes, we do have some hobbies. Of course computers are probably at the top of the list, but we do enjoy some other things. This page will contain links to pages that relate to our hobbies and some original material. It will change often so stay in touch.

Native American Culture

Both of us have an interest in Native American Culture, particularly of the Southeast region which is where we live. Mike has a degree in Anthropology with a specialization in Creek Indians, and I have done some research in Cherokee culture. I wrote a paper on Cherokee Kinship Systems and Marriage Customs if your interested, I've converted it to HTML and posted it here.

Celtic Culture

What started as designing a logo for a school, became an obsession with Celtic art work. So....I had to learn how to do it. Many books later, many trips to the local Art store and I sort of have a new hobby.

Bead Work

Along with our interests in Native American Culture, I have learned how to do seed bead work. It started out as an interest in reproducing Native work and techniques, but has grown to include some Victorian type work and jewlery.

Both of us enjoy curling up on the couch with a project. The latest craze is cross stitch. Some of our work can be found in the Art Gallery.

Astronomy

About a year and a half ago, we both got interested in Astronomy. After many cold hours in the backyard with binoculars, we finally bought a small telescope. When comet Hyakutake made such an impressive site last winter, we tried our hand at astrophotography. Check out the
Picture Gallery page for some of the results.

Gardening

Gardening has been a hobbie for many years (money permitting). Check out the
Picture Gallery for pictures of this years (1998) garden. Since we now live in an apartment, this hobby is on hold.
